Male Pattern Baldness Causes

  • Genetics (family history of hair loss): Hair loss in men can largely be blamed on the heredity factor. Male Pattern Baldness, too, has genetic 'roots' in 80 per cent of individuals. What people with this type of hair loss inherit are hair follicles with a genetic sensitivity to the hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Hair follicles that are sensitive to dihydrotestosterone begin to miniaturize (e.g. shorter and thinner), with time eventually leading to hair loss and baldness
  • Underlying medical illnesses: In some cases, baldness may be accentuated by certain underlying medical conditions such as Anemia, Thyroid and Diabetes. We have often noticed patients being unaware of their underlying medical conditions which eventually lead to hair loss
  • Certain medications: Certain medications like anticoagulants, blood thinners, etc. can also cause hair loss. See your doctor if hair loss occurs after taking new medications or when it’s accompanied by other health complaints.
