Fasting plasma glucose (FPG) test: FPG test, also known as oral glucose tolerance test measures your blood glucose when you have not had food at least 8 hours before the test. The test is also performed two hours after you drink a glucose-containing beverage. It is used to detect diabetes or prediabetes. Prediabetes is a condition where your blood glucose levels are above normal, but not high enough for you to be diagnosed with diabetes. Prediabetes is considered to be the first stage of type 2 diabetes. FPG is most reliable when done in the morning

Random blood sugar test: This test is used to check your blood sugar and does not require you to fast. The test, along with assessment of symptoms, is used to diagnose diabetes, but not prediabetes. A random blood glucose level of 200 mg/dL or more, along with the presence of symptoms like increased urination and thirst and unexplained weight loss can mean that you have diabetes.

Glycated hemoglobin (A1C) test: This test tells you your average level of blood sugar over the past 2 to 3 months. People with diabetes need to do this test regularly to see if their levels are staying within range. It can tell if you need to adjust your diabetes medicines. The test is also used to diagnose diabetes.
